Multimedia and Missions

Missions Musical:

You can make your World Missions Conference come alive by carefully selecting music and multimedia to be used during your conference. Use music and multimedia presentations that reflect your theme or the countries and project(s) you support.

"To Every Nation" is a missions musical experience offered by SpiritSound (www.spiritsoundmusic.com). It is an interactive missions musical with songs featuring the music of Terrell Brinson, Garry Turner and more, arranged by Dove Award Winner Lari Goss.

The musical is an eclectic blend of music that communicates God's love for all nations and His desire to welcome lost people into His fellowship. This cutting-edge media-centered project offers:

  • an enhanced DVD, which includes media resources, split-track, drama ideas and a video of the live recording.
  • CD demos and split-tracks.
  • choral books.
  • orchestration.
Authentic video from around the world accompanies each song, depicting the overwhelming needs of the global harvest field. Contact World Missions or SpiritSound for more information.

You can also contact World Missions for suggestions about missions music to go along your selected theme and projects. Missions music can also be found in your church's hymnal and online. Search for "missions songs" to get an exhaustive list of missions songs and resources, both current and traditional. Select music that not only fits your theme, but fits your congregation.

Missions Songs:

A list of songs with a missions focus is included here to get you started. Use missions-themed songs for congregational singing, choir selections or as performances by featured ensembles or soloists.

LMR Devotion

Jim Elliot, missionary martyr who lost his life in the late 1950's trying to reach the Auca Indians of Ecuador, once said, "He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose."

As a LMR, you will meet all types of people and their views will vary when it comes to the topic of missions. There will be those who choose to "nibble on the possible," but you are challenged to be a "grabber of the impossible" through faith.

"I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me," (Philippians 4:13).

Missions Bits

LMR's should not only consider the resources available, they should ask questions relating to where to start. There are several areas to launch your mobilization efforts, ranging from children's church to the adult ministries. Remember, ministry is about relationships. It is important to make sure the pastor is on board with your efforts to raise the awareness of the church about the opportunities and blessings of being involved in missions. One of the roles of the missions representative is to be an educator.

You will need to be knowledgeable about missions, whether local or international. The task of local missions covers a broad range of items from evangelism to being involved in various service-oriented ministries. Service-oriented ministries focus on the needs of people regarding food, emotional and physical well-being and training needs. Evangelism, on the other hand, may be achieved through service ministries as relationships develop over time. This is the time to discuss the issue of assimilating people into the local church. Don't wait only until people are won to Christ because discipleship becomes an extremely important issue. More will be shared about this in the next "Missions Bits."

As you study the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), you should note that missions is divinely designed to reach beyond the preset boundaries of the local church. The Great Commission prompts us to go into all the world and make disciples. Our vision, mission statement and resources are to be calculated to fulfill the Commission's intent and purpose.

We are very familiar with the beginning of the Lord's Prayer when He says, "Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come thy will be done." There is more to the prayer, but lets focus on "thy will be done." Just how serious should we be about these words? There are two words that define the life of Jesus Christ: obedience and submission. Remember, LMR's are representatives of Jesus first and of His task secondly. True representatives are challenged to be obedient and submissive throughout their Christian experience to glorify God and expand the kingdom.

Missions Bits

LMR's always discover the need for resources in order to do ministry.

What ever you do, don't forget ministry and missions is built on relationships. This means time must be spent with people listening to their dreams. By doing so you will be surprised to find that God has placed people in the body of Christ (the church) who desire to be involved in missions one way or another. All too often we fail to realize that one of our most valuable resources is one another.

Another resource can be found in the community in which you live. Neighbors can be solicited to be of help in many different ways, such as a neighborhood yard sell to raise funds for projects or even to become a prayer partner. Businesses nearby may be willing to donate items for your missions conference or a Friday night auction. Be sure to communicate with your church regarding the gracious gifts given by others and respond with a card of thanks! You may also follow up with a phone call of gratitude and a commitment of prayer for those that have been so generous.

Money falls under resources as well. In the beginning of your ministry as a LMR, you will find out that missions may not presently be a household concept. A major challenge for you will be to continually raise awareness amongst the congregation about what you are doing and why you are doing it. Also, you will be challenged by different levels of apathy concerning the necessity of giving to missions. Don't be discouraged and don't let frustration be the reason you would surrender your quest to raise funds for the projects God has placed on your heart. You can find many ideas online when it comes to raising funds, but always be open to innovation and the Holy Spirit and when raising funds.

Smithfield Church of God — Missions Sunday

On November 1, Smithfield Church of God of Smithfield, North Carolina, recently celebrated "Missions Sunday." A colorful display was set-up in the foyer with items brought back from missions trips to Ecuador, including a hand-woven tapestry & tablecloth, a poncho & hats, and hand-made artifacts. A new bulletin board was installed specifically for news from Church of God World Missions.

This week featured photos and information from several Church of God missionaries and their projects. Brother Aubrey Whitlow read an e-mail to the congregation from Bro. Jim Womble, director of the Kibera Kids Center in Nairobi, Kenya. The e-mail was a powerful testimony of answered prayer! The offering was received following the reading of the e-mail.

The Smithfield Church of God has been greatly blessed for being a missions-minded church.

From the Pacific Northwest:

On Saturday, October 24, Terrell Brinson along with Church of God World Missions personnel came to the beautiful Pacific Northwest to conduct a regional LMR conference. The turnout was great for our area, and everyone I spoke with felt challenged and blessed. I was privileged to join the World Missions team in sharing at this conference. As the LMR conference concluded, information was shared which sparked number of questions that were asked by the attendees. Our LMR representatives and pastors in attendance left with great enthusiasm and appreciation for their role in reaching the lost for Christ.

Pastor Charles Fischer from Longview New Life Church of God, along with their local world missions board, hosted this exciting event and did an exceptional job in incorporating this meeting into their annual "World Missions Festival." We left full in spirit, fellowship, inspiration and food!

—Gary Tygart, World Missions Field Representative
